The AAO Insurance Company (a Risk Retention Group) (AAOIC) was incorporated under the laws of the State of Vermont on April 24, 1995, and was issued a certificate of authority to transact the business of an insurance company by the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance and Securities on May 31, 1995. The AAOIC offers the only professional liability insurance endorsed by the AAO. The AAOIC was created by orthodontists for orthodontists and is an insurance company wholly owned by its insured shareholders, who are all members of the AAO. AAOIC is also directed by a team of orthodontist colleagues and managed by experienced AAO staff and proven insurance professionals.

AAOIC offers two coverage options: occurrence and claims-made. Members who choose the claims-made option are eligible for free “tail” coverage at retirement age 50 or over, provided they have been continuously insured in the AAO program for at least four years. You chose the limits of liability that best suit your needs. Choose from options of $1,000,000/$1,000,000 or $1,000,000/$3,000,000. Higher limits, up to $3,000,000/$3,000,000 are available upon acceptance. Premium credits are available for the AAO risk management training, part-time practitioners and new graduates.
